This year July 4th falls on Tuesday, giving most of us an extra-long weekend to celebrate that our colonies declared independence from Great Britain so many years ago. What does that mean to us today?
As we joyfully gather with family and friends, attend fireworks, picnics, beach parties and backyard barbeques, Let’s take a few moments to reflect on how very fortunate we are to live in this great country.
I read something the other day that stopped me in my tracks. “What if we woke up tomorrow with only that – which we remembered to be thankful for today?”
For most of us that would be a task to fill the entire weekend.
We wake each morning with seemingly endless options. We are free to have our own beliefs and practice a chosen faith. Free to improve our socioeconomic status, go to college, get a better gig, choose whom we love and friend.
We’re safe from the horrific atrocities that some citizens suffer at the hands of their own government. We take for granted that our homes and families are safe, have an abundance of food, medicine and water.
Freedom though, isn’t free. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who have served in our military and in some cases paid the ultimate price for our comforts and joy. We realize that without the courage and bravery of all those that came before us, we would not have the freedoms that we hold so very dear.
Take a moment to create your own list, it will surprise you how good you’ll feel afterword.
Have an amazing Fourth of July Weekend.
